With every tool that you use to market your business, Twitter needs to have a strategy all its own. You can't use the same strategy with every form of marketing or it won't work. Worse, don't just jump into any marketing without a plan; otherwise it won't work for you at all. Many small businesses do not yet see the advantages of using Twitter, but if you try a few actions now you'll see how well it can work for you to generate local business.
The first thing you need to do is decide why you want to use Twitter. If the answer is somewhere between a promotional tool, and a tool of engagement, then you can make Twitter work.Using Twitter to promote your services and products and never engage the followers is a big mistake, if you do that, they'll just ignore you and stop following you. Twitter is a social tool and should be used for this purpose. Twitter users like to believe they are talking to real people on Twitter, not a bot. Use Twitter to promote, but keep in mind that it is also use it to get to know your customers by interacting with them.
If your employees like toTweet during the day it is ok to let them as long as they're tweeting as a representative of your company and make sure that they are tweeting in a positive light about your business having them engage and interact with followers by asking and answering relevant questions, conducting polls, sending out coupons, and more, it's great to let the employees do that. Customers love talking to people and the people on the floor will be more relatable than management or a marketing professional. Even if some of the Tweets seem personal, as long as they're positive it's perfectly fine.
One thing to keep in mind is that it's important for you to also follow others on Twitter. A good rule of thumb is to follow those who follow you right back. Also, actively look for people whom you consider your target market to follow before they follow you. This is where hashtags may help to find your target market. They may follow you back , ingaging in your business.
Always remember to provide useful and relevant content if you want them to people to keep following you once you do this. If everything you share is boring, or of a sales nature, they're going to stop caring.
Ensure that you are monitoring the buzz about your company and follow anyone who is talking about your company, products, services, or close relations to it. This is a great way to get to know your target audience better. Knowing their hopes, dreams and even their fears will go far in helping you develop good relationships with them. Once you know them well enough you'll know what keywords will get more response from them.
If you don't decide that it's important to tweet regularly, there is no point in even getting involved in Twitter. Don't go nuts and make them want to shut you down, but do have a plan of how many relevant tweets you will send each day, about what, who and from where. Once you decide on all these factors you'll have a lot of strategies in place from which to develop your tactics. Once you get started, regularly evaluate how you're doing with your strategies and tactics by studying the response you get to each strategy or tactic.
